Coaches:
Melissa Field
Melissa was born and raised in Boulder. As a Colorado kid, Melissa grew up skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and running. After graduating from the University of Colorado, Melissa went to work for a Clinton official specializing in the conflict in Northern Ireland. In 2005, she moved to Philadelphia to further pursue her passion for public service and to earn a Master’s degree in public administration from the University of Pennsylvania. While living out east, Melissa missed her active childhood and started running road races in all major eastern cities. In early 2008, she started a monthly running column for Philadelphia Runner.
As the column gained widespread popularity, Melissa was asked to lead a weekly running group for beginners. Melissa also began volunteering for Students Run Philly Style, an organization helping primarily low-income and at-risk youth train for long distance running. Melissa assisted with the Nike booth at Penn Relays for several years and enjoyed bringing her love of running to a city struggling with issues surrounding health and income disparity.
Melissa now works for the Colorado Association for School-Based Health Care as the director of policy and communication. Through this position, she strives to ensure children in Colorado receive basic health care. In addition, Melissa continues to write columns for a variety of running publications, including TrainingPeaks, the official training software system for Runner’s World magazine.
The owners of Philadelphia Runner, Ross Martinson and Bryan Mahon, brother of Mammoth coach Terrence Mahon, mentored Melissa through her first marathon and numerous personal records. With their generosity toward the community and their personal humility, they inspired Melissa to help other runners and to pursue a career in public health policy. Since moving back to Colorado, Melissa regained her love of trail running and is currently training for Pikes Peak Ascent. She believes running brings us closer to our own best self, gives us a way to connect with our communities, and helps us see and celebrate the world around us.

Angelina Ramos
Angelina was raised on the east coast (NY/NY/CT) and founded New Fairfield High School’s indoor track program. Angelina’s an alumnus of Florida State University's NCAA Division 1 Cross Country and Track and Field Program. She learned much of what she knows about coaching and running from a coaching staff that led FSU’s men’s track team to 3 consecutive national championship titles as well as a women’s cross country program that won the triple Atlantic Coast Conference Crown three years consecutively, and placed in the top 3 at cross country nationals 3 years consecutively as well.
Angelina was a 400/800m competitor in high school and specialized in middle distance in college: 800/1500m (track) & 5k/6k (cross country). In the past six years, she has coached 14 running programs, and 2 triathlon programs, consisting of co-ed youth, masters, and high school athletes alike. She has trained programs ranging from athletes preparing for 400-5,000m on the track, high school athletes preparing for 5k cross country seasons, and athletes preparing for 5k, 10k, half-marathons, and marathons on the roads . Angelina also coaches women’s running camps in Estes Park at Active at Altitude-RunningVacations.com. Of all the programs she has worked with, she’s most proud of leading the Niwot High School girls’ cross country team to a regional championship title in the fall of 2010.
Angelina taught public speaking for two years at the University of Colorado, and she continues to do keynote speaking for various events. She does motivational and persuasive speaking on all topics running, nutrition, and training for endurance sport. She appreciates both the instructing, motivating, and mentoring opportunities offered both by coaching a sport and teaching in a classroom. Angelina loves delivering various workshops on running form, nutrition for running, on goal-setting, and motivation to athletes of all skill levels and abilities.
Angelina received her master’s degree in communication from the University of Colorado, Boulder, with a specialization in sports and political discourse, in August of 2010. She studied pre-med for 3 years during her studies at Florida State University while pursuing her bachelor’s from 2003-2008. Angelina has worked as a physical therapist’s medical assistant for 3 summers, which fine-tuned her knowledge in injury prevention as well as rehabilitation.
Angelina covered the sport of professional and NCAA road-racing, cross country, and track & field as a sports journalist, editor, and reporter for 3 years (Trackshark.com, Sports Illustrated, etc). She interned with the Bolder Boulder three years in a row, and worked the elite-athlete selection side of the race, writing their media bios, and assisting with elite athlete hospitality. After doing public relations for 6 months with www.InvisibleShoe.com, promoting the benefits of minimalist and barefoot running, Angelina now works for Phoenix Multisport, a non-profit in Boulder, Denver, and Colorado Springs. The Phoenix build sober-active communities, and give former substance abuse addicts a chance to redefine who they are, and rewrite their potential through joining a community of runners, triathletes, climbers, etc, and replacing substance highs with natural highs: endurance sport.
Angelina thinks running is the greatest sport ever and, in fact, despite going to a huge football school, the sport of running is the only sport she seriously follows. She continues to train and compete at middle-distance and loves the athletes she coaches more than ever. She’s super excited to have had the fantastic opportunity to coach Bold Running athletes for their past six training seasons, and her personal coaching motto is that "it's never too late to become what you might have been.”
