Rookie Run
 |
This year’s Fans on the Field brings with it the 2nd Annual Rookie Run, a fun run for kids ages 10 and younger. The run will begin at Sports Authority Field, where the kids will take part in a quick lap around the stadium before running along the field to the finish line. Registration for the Rookie Run is $15 and includes a t-shirt, kids goody bag, free unlimited downloadable photos, lunch and kids activities at the Post Event Tailgate Party. |
The National Sports Center for the Disabled, through partnering with Kids Running America, is proud to present John Prenguber, a below-the-knee, double amputee, and his involvement with the 2nd Annual IMA Rookie Run. Prenguber, a runner since the early 80’s, will be joining the Rookie Run participants in their race through Sports Authority Field as he strives to show Colorado children that anything is possible.
Prenguber has had a running career that boasts of more than 300 completed races, including nine marathons, one being the prestigious Boston Marathon. In 2000, amputation of one leg was needed due to infections complicated by diabetes. A year later, the other leg required removal. Though he doubted he would ever run again, Prenguber is back running with a goal aimed at the 2011 New York City Marathon. In 2009, Prenguber was named a Lockheed Martin employee of the year by CAREERS & the disABLED magazine, the nation’s first and only career magazine for people with disabilities.
Prenguber has taken his love for the sport and turned it into a way of recovery and growth while simultaneously working to motivate children to start running. |
